Currently consumer available DVD-R (+R) are 4.7 bullshit Gigabytes and 4.38 computer Gigabytes.

Anything of larger capacity is DVD-RAM @9.4Gb (marketing Gb)

There are also expensive and difficult-to-find dual-sided 9.4GB Pioneer DVD-Rs.
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

I suppose that is the technical name for it?

And for your question devdev, the -RAM is used for almost strictly for data only. not video. I personally would not buy a -RAM drive.
