  1. i have .avi files that are rather large, but still under the 700mb limit that is needed to fit on a cd. when i try and burn them, nero says that there is not enough space on the disc (there clearly is), and asks me if i want to finalize after burning. i'm not really sure what this means, but i've opted to finalize and not finalize my cd, and i've gotten the same result. the cd will 'burn', nero says its finished/100% completed, and i try to use the cd only to find out that theres no info on the disc. worse than that, if i try and reuse the cd, nero recognizes it as a cd that has info written on it and says its not a writable medium. i've wasted countless cds trying to figure this thing out.
    any thoughts?

also, i'm realitively new to these boards. i'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum

  2. Hmm... Have you tried restarting your computer and trying the discs? Sometimes if you try the discs while Nero is running they will not show data.

Also, you could try running the disc through ISOBUSTER to see what was written to it, if anything.

Are you just trying to put the .avi file on to a CD, or are you trying to make a (S)VCD?

If you are just trying to put the .avi file on a CD (still in the .avi format), you could try a CDRW. Or exactly how many MB is it?

If you are trying to make a (S)VCD, a common newbie mistake is that the size of the .avi file is important if you are trying to put it on a (S)VCD. It's not. The length of the video is important.

So if you are trying to make a (S)VCD, make sure the length of the video is under 80 minutes (for a 700MB CD) for VCD, and about 45 minutes for SVCD (on an 700MB CD) - the amount of video/audio on an SVCD will very depending on bitrate.

    Hope this helps

well now i'm really confused. running my cds through isobuster shows me that the files are actually on the disc. however, when i try and access the files by clicking on the 'e' drive in 'my computer', or when i try and view the file through a program like windvd, it shows that there arent any files on the disc. what on earth is going on?

I know your problem well. Listen please no one else can help you here. Remove nero completely from your system. Then reinstall it using your cdrw as the drive. Install version 5.5.9 something i can't remember that's the most reliable version in the 5.5 series. Also Nero will indeed ask you if you want to finalize the cd if the file is 686 megs or more. Say yes everytime. This way it will close off the cd and make it readable. Your info is indeed on the disk that's for sure its just not readable. So scap those disk and burn new ones...... Remeber always accept.
