  1. I have recently acquired a DVD writer (Sony DRU10A) and a Hauppage DEC2000 Digital TV box. I want to be able to create DVDs of films recorded from TV. I can create MPEGs from the TV but am struggling to create a satisfactorary DVD. The bundled software, Pinnacle Expression, seems to be very poor at getting the audio track in sync with the video and causes the audio track to break up. I then tried Sonic DVD producer which had similar problems. Then I tried ULead Movie factory which created one good DVD. Since then it always fails before it has converted the MPEG. I have an Athlon 2100 based PC running Windows XP. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. I'd also be interested in recommendations for video editing software that will edit the MPEFGs produced by the Hauppage.

I am not familiar with the capture device used.

However, after capture does the audio stay in sync when in AVI form?
Does it stay in sync after encoding to MPEG2?
Does it go out of sync after using an authoring program?

i myself have noticed that Sonic MYDVD for example insists on recoding the audio of mine to PCM and sometimes that goes out of sync.

However if I use Adobe Premier 6.5 of Vegas Video to encode to MPEG2 then use DVDA, SPRUCEUP or such I have not sync problems.

Nice to see another UK user.

  3. I can't answer your question about AVI as I haven't found a good way of converting the MPEGs to AVI or to MPEG2.

Apparently your DEC2000 inputs MPEG2 to the computer through a USB interface. If you are editing a MPEG2 video file, that's probably when the sound gets out of sync. Is it out of sync with no editing when the file is burned? Unfortunatelly out of sync audio is one of the most common problems in these forums. You might check the MPEG2 file with AVIcodec to see what codecs it uses. It's much easier to edit AVI's but that seems a unnecessary conversion in your case. You can probably do a search of the forums for audio sync problems and get better information
