  1. Hey everyone....got a slight problem. I just tried backing up my Behind Enemy Lines dvd and ripped the whole thing using DVD Decrypter.

Everything went smoothly.......until I tried playing some of the VOBs in power dvd. The extras and behind the scenes type VOBs play fine but the actual main movie has no sound in it.

I also reauthored the Main Movie in DVDShrink but only got the Video as well. Movie looks great but no Audio.

Why would none of the VOBs have audio in it except for the extras, menus, and what not? Something to do with what type of audio it is?

    Any help is appreciated.........thanks

What audio stream did select with DVD Shrink?? DVD Shrink lists all the streams it finds before you encode. What audio stream did you select?

  3. I selected

    DTS 6ch. English - Normal 580MB
    AC3 6ch. English - Normal 295MB

    I deselected

    AC3 2ch. Spanish - Normal 147MB
    AC3 2ch. English - Directors Comments 147MB
    AC3 2ch. English - Directors Comments 147MB

But why would the Main Movie VOBs not have sound after decrypting them with DVD Decrypter...........the extras have sound but not the main movie?

Thanks for the reply......hope this helps

  4. The VOB files contained multiplex video (m2v) and audio (ac3 or pcm) (+/- subtitles). Just playing them directly can produce all kinds of sound problems. You need to open the VIDEO_TS.IFO file with your software DVD player and play the entire DVD from that.

With that said. You should have gotten the audio files when you ripped the DVD. My first thought is that the main audio stream used is not audio stream1, and this confused both power dvd and DVD Shrink.

Question - did you rip the entire DVD or only the VOB files containing the main movie? What happens if you play from the ripped VIDEO_TS folder (not each VOB file)? For the DVD Shrink backup, what happens if you play it and then try to cycle through the audio manually with your remote?

  5. It's actually pretty simple -- the DTS is your main (first) audio and will not play unless you have a DTS encoder (you won't on your computer, but you might on your home equipment). The extras won't have DTS sound, so you hear them just fine.

On your standalone player just press the switch audio stream and you should have the secondary stream (and thus audio) just fine. In the future when you use Shrink make sure you deselect DTS unless you have an encoder on your home system.

  6. Finally got it. Thanks to Mkelley and Sama for their expertise as well as everyone else. It appears all I had to do is switch the audio stream in PowerDVD. I guess I will have to do that on my standalone player as well.

    Thanks again everyone.

DVD Shrink does not correct the ifo file which instructs the DVD player what audio streams to play, the default is stream #1 no matter what that stream is. Normally the ac3 stream will be #1,to insure player compatibility. Unless you select audio stream #1 in DVD Shrink, you will need to use your remote button to select the stream with data in it.
DVD95Copy and CloneDVD do re-write the ifo file so that it properly reflects the streams you actually chose.

I've had a similar problem. Not made any changes to my settings.

Using DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD, IFO mode.

Testing ripped files in Power DVD - no sound.
