Just purchased an ATI AIW card and am only able to capture audio w/the software that's integrated with the TV tuner. When using Pinnacle Studio 8.1, Ulead Movie Factory 2, and Virtual Dub, I can hear audio through the PC speakers when doing the capture but when I play the file back later there is none. I've talked to tech support at ATI who helped me doublecheck all my settings & connections, and they are supposedly correct.
I'm running XP w/a 2.08 gig AMD, 512 RAM, a 120GB HD, and a realtek AC97 soundcard.
Would really like to use other capture programs besides the one ATI provided. Any advice is appreciated - thanks!
W.D.

When you capture, you must specify the video and audio device. Video is easy, as most people only have one. audio, however, is defaulted to your sound card. Since your not using your sound card, you need to specify your capture card as the audio device. Somewhere in your capture software you can specify sound card line-in, sound card mic-in, and AIW9000 audio in.
What you hear and see during capture is just passed through (overlayed video), and may not relate to the file you capped. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately my Realtek AC97 soundcard is the only audio device listed in both the Ulead and Pinnacle menus ('AIW9000 audio in' is not listed). In Virtual Dub I can specify the video source but, again, do not have a choice of audio sources (only a menu where I can check 'source audio,' 'no audio,' or 'wav audio'). Further, tech support at both Ulead and Pinnacle have told me that the proper setting is 'sound card line-in,' but then again, if they knew what they were talking about I would have the problem solved by now.
I should also mention that I have an ATI output adaptor connecting the A/V out on my capture card to the line-in on my sound card (as directed in the ATI documentation).
I'd be grateful for any other suggestions. Otherwise is looks like this thing is going back to the store -
It sounds like you haven't selected the correct source in your mixer. Double Click the speaker icon in your taskbar and select Options, Properties. Click in the box marked "Adjust volume for Recording" and make sure the checkmark is in the Line in box. Click OK and make sure that the Line In slider is around midway and it is selected.
Unless you are actually getting a signal coming in, it doesn't matter what you do with the settings in your capture software. -
Thanks for your help, Richard_G, but I've already checked this and it's set up correctly. If this were the cause of the problem then I would not be able to capture sound with ANY type of software. Yet as mentioned previously, I can capture sound using the ATI software that is integrated w/my TV tuner. But not any other type of software. Strange...
