  1. hi, I'm pretty new to all this but checked through lots of boards and related sites. I'm still wondering if this is normal: once I encode a divx avi with TMPGEnc - let's say a 2h movie - to VCD mpeg, it all goes well but it takes like 150h to encode and if I use the PC meanwhile, it practically stops processing. i admit I only have a PIII 350mhz but when I use Panasonic's MPEG encoder, it shows about the 10th of the time to process.
do I do something wrong or is TMPGEnc really that slow?

You need Pentium III 800 mhz minimum.
I get to convert from 4 min video and audio.avi to VCD Compliant.mpg file with TMPGenc in 20 minutes.

  4. Well, a 2 hour movie should take about 24 hours on a Pentium 350 Mhz.

You must have many options turned on such as "noise reduction" or something like that. Check them off.

I had a 266Mhz and spent about 210$ to upgrade to a new box with Athlon 1.2GHz + 256MB memory + built in sound card. All other peripherals are transferred from my old system.

It now takes me 5 hours instead of 25.
