I have a hitachi DVD cam and are mighty impressed with it (pal version so dont believe the bad reviews the ntsc ones have been getting, there are differences) and love that it is a mini dvd burner as wellBut i was wondering how this cameras quality compares with that of a dv cam? My dvd cam captures in 702x576 25fps and 6mbit a second on Fine quality, or 352x576 25fps 3mbit on standard, there is a xtra quality mode that used vbr 3mbit to 10mbit but i cant be bothered use it.
so snyways, is there much difference in quality from that and a dv cam?

One of the big problems with the Hitachi is the slight picture breakup on pans. I know it was much improved with the second release of the camera, but still not as good as a standard DV cam. Also, with a DVD cam you are limited in the bitrate you can use, and it is encoded on the fly, so the picture quality can not yet compare with a miniDV camcorder.
