  1. Ok, so I'm trying to take my selection of adult dvds, rip the best vobs and then create a 'best of' dvd, using premiere to edit the avis that I should be generating with dvd2avi.

My problem - I want dvd2avi to create the highest quality avis possible so I select 'Full Frames (Uncompressed)' or 'No Recompression'. Then, it either crashes dvd2avi or displays 'finish' immediately in the status window and creates a file with no data in - 0 bytes.

Any ideas what could be causing this? Can someone recommend an alternative to dvd2avi?

  2. Problem Solved - Now using Max DVD to AVI converter (which weirdly uses DVD2AVI engine I believe?!?) without problems.

Yeah, okay, but you're going through a lot of extra steps - unnecessary steps, too.

Just rip the .VOBs that you want off the DVDs (the audio should come with them), demux the resulting .VOBs into elementry streams, then just feed these into any authoring program. Add the menus, compile and you are done.

Most "adult" DVDs have LPCM audio (at least my - I mean my neighbor's - DVDs do) which is huge. I - I mean he - encodes these audio tracks to .AC3 to save considerable space.

At present, I am rippping the .vobs from the DVD (I wish I could just use DVD2AVI in its standalone form - Max DVD to AVI converter is trash), converting them to avi and then editing them in Premiere. It's good to have them in AVI format as I find searching, cutting and general editing in Premiere much easier with AVI files compared to m2v and mp2 video/audio files.

What options do I have regarding the conversion of vobs?

BTW - I have no problems authoring and I already convert all audio to ac3 with scenarist's AC3Enc. Like you say, otherwise the files would be WAY too big with the audio (which is pretty essential for certain films...).
