  1. I bought my dvd recorder recently with intent to backup copies of my personal DVD Collection for when/if they ever get lost, broken, scratched, etc.

Well, I've always loved Nero and continue to today. But I have one main problem with it and copying dvds: It won't copy any of mine because they are all copywrite protected!

Is there any way to get around this in Nero? If not, what other program will burn a dvd copy "on the fly" like Nero and *NOT* add a stupid flash image/screen at the beginning of each copy you make (as DVD X Copy does)?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jeremy

  2. Try DVD shrink to rip. It works. Then use Nero to burn.

  3. Thanks for the input but I only want to use 1 program to both rip and burn. More preferrably, I want/need a program that will rip/burn "on the fly" like Nero does!

DVDSHrink will, but you have to install an app, I think its called copy2dvd or something like that

  5. ok but does it burn "on the fly"? and does it not burn a splash screen onto each dvd advertising for the burn program?

  6. DVD Decrypter in ISO mode, first Read then Write. This works only with DVD-5. For DVD-9 you need DVDShrink (freeware), DVD2One etc.. to shrink the movie into DVD-5.

Or play the dvd for a few seconds in Power DVD. It removes the copyright protection.

  7. You can not make a on the fly DVD backup because of the CSS protection. You have to rip the DVD to the HD (removing the CSS) then burn the VIDEO_TS folder.

This works if it's a DVD5 disc, for DVD9 disc you'll need to do a little more See the DVD Rip guides to the left for more info. Popular choices including running a transcoder to compress the entire DVD so it fits on a single DVDR. Popular transcoders include: InstantCopy, DVD2One, DVD95copy and DVD Shrink. Of which only DVD Shrink is freeware.
