Does anybody know of a DVD authoring program that will allow the addition (or replacement) of extra subtitles? What I’m trying to do is correct some mistakes – misspellings, bad grammer, etc., then add the corrected subs to the movie without having to re-encode.
I’ve ripped the DVD to my hard drive, used Subrip to rip the subtitles, did the necessary corrections, used SRT2SUP to convert the subtitle file and VOBedit to de-mux the Audio and video from the VOB files.
I’ve tried using IfoEdit (‘DVD Author >Author new DVD’) to Re-mux the audio, video, and subtitles, but it crashes every time: tried it on 2 different systems, tried different audio formats, even no audio – always crashes.
Any other way to do this?

You don't need to re-encode but you do need to re-author. There only programs that I know of to author a DVD video disc with subtitles are: DVD Maestro, Scenarist, Reel DVD, Adobe Encore and IFOEdit. Since IFOEdit is the only freeware program on that list, that's what most people use.
IFOEdit can do the job so I think it's save to assume that something is off on your end. Have your tried muxing the m2v + ac3 file without the subtitles? If that works then most likely the sup formated subs that have a problem. -
I have only once tried authoring with IFOEdit. Adding the subtitles crashed with one version I had (very old one) and caused irregular playback with another. Tried the latest (0.94 it is if I remember correctly) and worked fine.
Start with a small video and audio file set (say 100Mb each) to save time and experiment with the latest version.
If you are using the latest version, make sure the subtitles are in the correct format. The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -
OK, I found out the problem -I tried using just the audio and video streams, and IFOedit complained about "no valid input" (or something like that); the .M2V file generated by VOBEdit shows as "invalid stream" when I checked it with Bitrate Viewer.
I de-muxed the video stream from the .VOB using SmartRipper, and everything worked fine.
Thanks for the hints and help! You can't fool me, I'm a moron!
