  1. I have a DVD-r from a friend of some local bands I'm trying to rip/copy, but I keep coming up with error messages. There are 5 .vob files, but the last one won't rip-I'm using Smart Ripper, and the rip fails at the very end of the file. Also the bup file wile also not rip.

If I use file mode on smart ripper, when it get's to the part of the .vob it cannot read, if I choose 'ignore' several hundred times (i.e. to get to the end of the file), it gives me a complete file that will play back in Power DVD, but these files fail the check when trying to burn them as a Video DVD in Nero 6

I've tried converting the .vob's back to mpeg using DVD2AVI but the .avi gives me a sound that runs out of synch about halfwat through.

Anyone any ideas what I might try next?

don't worry aborry the BUP, just open the same numbered IFO and click save and this will give you a new BUP which is just a backup of the IFO anyway then try Nero again but this may not fix it

to beat all the wise crack Nero 'sucks' posters I suggest you try using another burning software that is not as strict as Nero as that may work

if not then you could try running the ripped DVD through DVDShrink (or any other app) with no compression and seeing if that creates a working DVD you can then burn

  3. DVD Decrypter won't work on it..I've tried it!!

I've run the files I've extracted onto my hard drive through DVD Shrink, and it all goes ok until it hits almost the end of the final .vob, then I get tthis error

    invalid nv_pck:nv_vob_ea
    The reason is -unlnown

and won't go any further. I get the exact same thing if I run the original disk through DVD Shrink too.

Strange thing is, the original DVD plays just fine on my standalone

  5. What is the size of the original ? ... if it's under 4.37g, try AnyDVD (Trial Copy) and a straight diskcopy in Nero.
