Assuming the avi file is a dvix file. The only way it would work to my knowlege is if your dvd player supports dvix.

  3. You could try it, might depend on your player.

I burned a Mpeg (don't remember 1 or 2) directly to a DVD-r and it played about half way through the movie great then just stopped. My geuss is I hit a file size limit head on with my player!

As I remember , I burned some other types of files to cd-r for a friend that had no DVD players at all, just the pc cd drive. They worked also in the DVD player of mine. I forget the file format though, was along time ago. And also it was captured from thier vhs camcorder.

Anyway, since it was for PC use only I just captured and burned the files. NOT a VCD, and it worked for me.

Then again, I have 3 DVDs I made that work for me but not on an Alegro combo unit, but the rest of mine do. So go figure.
I have a Norcent DP 300, seems to play anything I can shove in the drive!
