I just got this burner and the first thing I did was update the firmware. Was wondering if the new firmware (2.17) was region free. Nero is telling me it is and there is no region tab in device manager. However when I went to play a DVD with PowerDVD, it made me choose Region 1. Still, is this drive region free with this firmware?
Thanks.

That firmware is actually for the Optorite DD0201 drive and was posted there by mistake for the DD0203, it is not recommended to be flashed into the DD0203. The DD0201 is currently RPC-1 and with that firmware is region free. Optorite give no guarantees on how that firmware will function in a DD0203.
