But those DVD+R only go 2X, not 4X.
Have you used the HD-BURN function ? -
I havent received the drive yet. I will post my success when I get it. I know those only go 2x but trying to save a little money also doesnt hurt
. I it take s a little longer to burn it at 2x instead of 4x thats ok.

ok I love the drive. have made about 4 dvd+r's of dvds and works great and they play great in my standalone. The Imation disks I bought are working perfect with the drive so far. I can't figure out how to get the HD-burn feature to work though. Anyone had success? hehe maybe they should make a FAQ for it

I tried couple of cheap media, but none of them were recognized as 4x. Princo 4X (white top) is very good at 2x though. Does any one have difference with new firmware 2.16?
Maxwell true 2x unbranded, Memorex 2x, Ritek 4x, and Princo 4x have not any quality problem after burning. If Princo 4x can be written at 4x, I will buy them. I burned 10 Princos two months ago, still they are good.
I have not tried any DVD media after firmware updating.
For HD-burning, I got error message with cd-rw, but cd-r works great.
My old cd-r/cd-rw combo drive cannot read hd-burned disk, so I did not try hd-burn with dvd media yet.
Anyone tried Piodata DVD-r 4x? -
AFAIK the hd burn function is only for cdr and wont work with cdrw and especially not Dvdr. The hdburn discs cant be read in other drives or dvd players unless they specifically say they are compatible. I like this drive and this feature but i really wouldnt expect it to get much of a foothold in the market. (. why use 1.6gb when you can have fully compatible 4.3gb?? ). Still time will tell. Infinit media works well
