  1. I've been trying to convert some video clips to MPEG for VCD burning. The source is XVID Mpeg-4 and AC3 for the audio. The files play fine in media player.
When I convert the files with Tmpgenc I don't receive any errors. The file converts fine. AVIcodec says that the Mpeg file output is MPG1 video and Mpeg1 audio, layer 2. When I try to play the file, no sound. I thought I just might not have the proper codec loaded for listen to the output so I burned the file to VCD anyway. Same thing, no sound on the VCD.
Any suggestions on what I can check next?

    Thanks,

  2. TMPGEnc does not support AC3 audio. Since it doesn't, it will create an MP2 audio file for absolutely no reason and it won't have any audio.

The solution is to extract the audio track from the AVI using direct stream copy with Virtual Dub. Then convert the AC3 track to wav with some ac3 to wav converter like headac3he, and use this wav as audio source in TMPGEnc.
Beware of audio skew tho, as the audio track may start later than the video track in the original AVI.
