I have a Nec Nd-1100a. I have been burning Optidisk and Memorex, which work fine. Then I tried Verbatim, it burnes fine but the problem comes when playing. It always messes up within 30 minutes. All burning is done with Nero. I was wondering if, the problem was the media or the burner.

It could be a bit of both - some recorders adopt a better write strategy than others when it comes to media that's borderline with your equipment.
However, to be borderline, the media has to be right on the edge of your player's compatibility anyway. It definitely sounds like a media issue - check out who really made your blanks with something like DVDinfo Pro or similar, and stick with a brand you know works.
No doubt someone will blame Nero, but I use that exclusively and have never had any problems with it that were not of my own making. But I've had my fair share of media that won't play in my standalone... -
I never use nero to burn any dvd. It suck (at least for me). I had a whole bunch of playback problem. It would freeze, skip, pissed the hell out of me. Using the same drive and media, i used dvd decrypter and everything has been working fine eversince. Remember, what might work for someone might not work for other, so try different method. GOOD LUCK!
