  1. Hello,

I am facing problem playing a video with WMP. WMP attempted to download a codec but failed.

I tried opening the video with VirtualDub. Some error message poped up.

I tried opening the video with TMPGEnc. Some error message poped up too.

I tried using PowerDVD to open the video. This time round, there's music but the image is somehow only at most left and most right borders of the screen. In the middle there's a big black screen.

How do I solve this? Is it possible to make it playable by WMP?

    With regards,
    SneffeL

  2. D/load GSpot (under Tools section to the left), run it and it will tell you what codecs you need (video and audio) to play the file.

  3. Download the app GSPOT from the tools section of this site and load it up, then drag & drop your movie file onto the gspot program and it'll tell you what codec is needed.

  5. I have GSpot. It shows n.a. for all excepts the size and path.

  6. Is it an incomplete download from kazaa or something similar?

  7. Quit assuming everyone is a pirate. Who cares where he got it, his file sounds fux0red

  8. I dont care where his file came from, just offering a possible reason why it dont work. I've used the dat_view option on partial downloads from kazaa to see what's really in a file and if you havent got enough of it you cant view it in any media player or find out any codec info from gspot but suprisingly you can view it in powerdvd. Problem is when a file produced like that gets left as shared and is downloaded by others. Behavior of such file is exactly as original poster stated.

  9. Well, I did'nt get the file from KaZaa. Instead, I got it from Bittorrent. Now the problem is, others can view the video without any problems except me.
Like I mentioned before, the music is good, I can hear it with PowerDVD. But the image somehow appeared only at the left & right borders of PowerDVD in a thin columm shape. Other than the borders, the image is somehow blocked by a big black square.
