It only writes on DVD+R at 8x, my observations are you pay more for
DVD+R disc's and more for the burner, generally paying for the time saved
at inflated prices!.

IMO, 8x is not really necessary, unless your in the "copying business". Heck, if you cant wait 15 minutes to burn a DVD 4x, you really need to chill out and have a glass of merlot, or something.

I never had the fastest CDR burner either, infact my Pioneer DVR-106 only does them at 16x, but 5 minutes to burn a CDR is no big deal for me.

Ofcourse, there are always "teething" problems, and it will probably take a couple years before DVD @ 8x works consistently. Jeez, many people that burn DVD's now dont feel comfortable about 4x yet.

8x burning for single layer is cool and all, but dual layer burning (even if slow) is where it's all at for me. See ya later to compressed or split DVDs. Of course when Hollywood starts making DVDs bigger than 9gig, thats all out the window.

It's not out the window. It will simply be time for the DVD Shrink crew to resurrect their skills and gear them towards the dual layer technology, which I'm sure they'll be able to do. Those guys have MAD skills.

I have an 8x Optorite. Very cool, especially when running out a dozen copies of an event I videotaped. As for blanks, Verbatim and Memorex 4x work just fine, and are $1.25 or less fairly regularly.

Jester, may I ask? Do the 4x discs you use burn at 4x, or at 8x?
