  1. I keep getting a bus error whenever I try to convert an .aif file to ac3. It (consistently) happens in APack and ffmpegx. The terminal reports this:

    success: format: 0 data: 0x0 - 0x4BCDADEC
    Audio file detected.
    sh: line 1: 824 Bus error /usr/bin/mencoder /Users/xxxxx/Desktop/8\ Mile.wav -oac copy -aid 0 -ovc lavc -sws 0 -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=1000:keyint=240:vqmin=2:vqma x=15 -ofps 23.976 -vop scale=640:272 -o

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Ga DP533, 640 megs and just disk doctored and diskwarriored.

    Thanks!!

try using .wav instead for your source. Export your .AIF to .WAV in Quicktime. Sounds odd, but try it. If that still doesnt work, let me know... there are more options.

  3. Yeah, it does sound strange but it was the first thing I tried. Crashed both APack and ffmpegx. Just for a reference, this file is an mpeg 2 export from a .mov file (I saw your recomendations in an earlier post, thanks!!) that I seem to be having trouble with. It's happened with 2 conversions so far. With the first one I just made the project with the .aiff file, but the whole thing turned into a 9gig project and I had to use DVD2ONE X to shrink it down.

Do you think it has nything to do with my configuration? Apack crashes at different times during the encoding so it seems to me that it's not a problem with the file.

try your audio encoding in ff using a .wav file instead of an AIF.

Another solution would be to update or re-install DVDSP. I have never had problems like you describe with A.Pack.

You might want to double and triple check your bitrate.

Is AC-3 sound a must? Could you slide with using MP2 instead?

If so, just open the terminal and type this:

    mp2enc -b 224 -r 48000 -o /path/to/ouput.mp2 < /path/to/input.wav

This will give you a bit rate of 224 [feel free to change] but do not change the sampling rate.

This WILL work... and if not, its your config that neeeds help.
