i have a downloaded video file that i am trying to convert with tmpgenc
and even at its lowest bitrate (3000) the file is too big for one dvdr can anybody advise of a way to fit it on one dvdr or will i lose too much quality.

Extract the audio first with virtual dub. Then convert using tmpgenc with the original file and the extracted audio (wav file). This will sort out your file size.
