  1. me crazy.. for some files I have to use different versions of the XVide codec and some work and some do not work. They are some live concert files. Someone mentioned that the ffdShow can replace the Xvid but I tried it but it works about 70% but 1/2 still it breaks up the images like a kaleidoscope of funky colors.. maybe I should try next is a hammer on the monitor.

    You need only the newest version of XviD. Are you sure your not referring to DivX? That codec has multiple versions, all of them distinct from each other ( Divx3 Low Motion, DivX 3 High Motion, DivX 4, Divx5 ). Even with DivX, once you install each of the codecs above, your all set.
