Sony DRU-510A & Fingerprints on discs

Hi,

I have recently purchased a Sony dru-510a and regardless of the media I have used (ritek dvd-r, packard bell dvd+r) so far, I have rarely burnt a complete disc.

Multi-sessions are fine but as soon as I approach the last burnable area on the outside of the disc my data seems to be corrupt (from that session) although it never appears to show errors during burning or verification (Veritas RecordNow DX).

This morning I checked the bottom of my discs and noticed that on the very edge there were some visible fingerprints, the inprint of which seems to have been burnt into the actual media during the burning process.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Is this possible? What is the best method for cleaning before burning a disc?

Over the many years I have been burning CD-Rs I have never burnt a coaster as a result of a fingerprint - I guess DVD-R/+R are more sensitive!

What specific type of computer & operating system are you using?

I don't like that media on a sony get something that works. Like accus.

I have recently built the following PC:

WinXP SP1
Asus P4P800
P4 3GHz
2 X 256MB PC3200 (Crucial)
Asus v9950 Ultra

I usually remove the discs from the standard packaging and place them into kick-out style jewel cases, meaning it is very difficult to handle the discs without touching the burnable surface - hence fingerprints will appear.

My next test is to use a disc straight from it's original packaging and see if I can avoid this data corruption.

Are DVD burnables as sensitive as this? Only I always use kick-out jewel cases on all my CD-Rs and have never had any problem like this (I often accidently touch the very edge of the writable surface without any problems)?
