summary of the link-change the “playback time” value of 1472 to 192(for NSTC) or 64 (for PAL) and change the “entry point sector” value the same as “last sector of this cell”. Make sure you use the right value for NSTC or PAL. Either will give your cell a time of 00:00:00.00.

I am using this guide to disable the warnings and unneeded clips before the DVD menu begins (going straight to the menu). Are there different ways to do it?

Anyway, I used this method and my DVD works just the way I want to on my PC. But when I play it in my Sony living room player, it doesnt work right. The lcd screen on my DVD player says it is in play mode but the counter isnt going. Nothing is showing on my TV either. If I press "DVD menu" then I see the menu. If I exit the menu then the movie starts.

In other words, my DVD doesnt start up. If it does start up, it seems to jump to the first track instead of going to the menu.

  2. @ subferno ...I'd be willing to bet it is your DVD STANDALONE player...not just the standalone itself..but because it's a SONY. I haven't personally used any of 2COOL's guides and rarely visit doom9, but I know his guides are helpful for the most part.

Anyway, I did dissect a movie about three months ago and basically tried to remove the warnings and pre-movie garbage. Anyway, when I was finally done...I played the disk in my standalone player which is a Philips..and it played perfectly...just the way I wanted it to. Then I played the disk in my DVD ROM, and it was fine. But when I tried the disk in my cousin's Sony standalone..I had the same exact problem you are having. The disk would appear as though it was playing, but it wasn't. I couldn't even get to the menu. I was like WTF.....anyway, the same thing happened a few weeks later when I kept a DVD-5, but screwed around and just removed some extras for the fun of it. It worked on my standalone and DVD ROM, but NOT my cousin's Sony.

With this being said....try your disk in about 3 different standalones if you can. For some reason, I think Sony has some Anti-Piracy device in many of their standalones...so when you play a DVD which it thinks is a commercial DVD...if that exact navigational structure isn't followed...the player just STOPS playing the disk. I may be wrong on this,...but with your issues as well as mine...I think that's the case.

Just curious...what is the model of your Sony DVD player?

My DVD player is a "DVP-C670D". Its a Sony 5 Disc DVD Player.

If it is the Sony DVD player causing the problem that I guess I can move on to backing up my other DVDs then. THanks Defense.

I'm gonna check with my cousin to see if that's the player he has. He also has a higher end Sony DVD player...but that's only a single disk player and it wasn't hooked up when I tried these other disks so I didn't check and see if it worked in that one. But the other player is a 5 disk SONY player too...I bet they are the same model.

Try and play that disk in 3 different DVD players...and if you can...post your results here.

Update: I believe this is my cousin's model of that player.

DVP-NC665P I remember he got it at Best Buy ...and I don't see Best Buy's site offering a different 5 disk carousel. But they are both SONY and I had the same issue. I'd check other standalone's first before continuing your current backup methods...just to be sure.

I will try. Almost all of my electronic equipments in my house are Sony so I guess I have to go over to a friend's house.

    Thanks for the help

  6. i'm a loyal Sony user too....but Sony just doesn't make the best dvd standalones because of all their anti-piracy tactics. That's why I sold my Sony dvd player on Ebay and purchased a real deal standalone. My Sony DVD player didn't even play MP3 DISKS...none....wouldn't play them....while my Sony CD 5 disk cd changer over 11 years old played all of them on every kind of disk...go figure....anyway, that experience plus the one I just explained proved it was clear that Sony is very stringent with their DVD Players versatility.

When you test the disk on your friends standalone.....if you can...try to update this post with the result. I'd would be interesting to see...because your model number is probably different from my cousin's....but i'm sure they are very similar players...with very similar functions.
