I have an Avi file that I would like to convert to DVD structure. I used the following method but I did not get any sound in the final DVD:

    1. Converted AVI To MPG (for dvd NTSC) using TMPGEnc.
    2. Converted MPG to DVD structure using TMPGEnc DVD Author

According to VDUB, the source audio in the AVI is Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec. I did nothing to convert this audio so I think that could be my problem.
How do I get audio in the final DVD structure (VOB files) that my DVD player will recognize? Thanks for the help.

  2. You need to extract the audio (Using Virtualdub) and may have to convert it to MP3 format (Using BeSweet) then with TMPGEnc, select the normal video file (Your MPG?) for the video and the audio (New MP3) for the audio, and that should take care of it. I am currently doing the same with a video that I obtained in AVI format, using VidX (Video) and AC3 (Audio). Still working on it as we speak, but as I understand it, that should fix the problem. Give it a try. Once I finish (Maybe in another 4 hours) I'll post an update on the success here.

  3. Not only will that work, it will also speed up the encoding process.

On my 1.7Ghz pc when encoding the divx directly to mpeg-2, it never encoded the audio for whatever reason plus it would take nearly 12 hours for a 90min video. Now that I strip the audio to "wav" and add back in will encoding it only takes me 3 hours to encode...!!!

AcidicChip, thanks for your help. I did what you said but using different software. In TMPGEnc, as I encoded the Avi to a DVD compliant MPG, I also split the audio and video streams at the same time. I then "rejoined" both of them using IfoEdit which created the DVD structure files (vob's). However, when I burned the DVD and played it I still had no sound!
Sooooo...I eventually figured out the problem. I had to change the audio output settings on my DVD player from "bitstream" to "PCM". Whalaa! I had sound! Thanks for your help!

  5. For DVD, you really shouldn't be doing MP2 since it is techinically non-standard. Just use VDubMod to demux then pass it through BeSweet for a 2/0 channel AC3.
