  2. Unfortunately there is not a boot cd for vcds on psx. there are no boot discs that our burners are capable of burning that work for the psx. if you want to play vcds on the psone you have to buy a vcd chip specifically for the psone. there are add ons that plug into the parrallel ports of the older psx models. if you want a boot cd for back ups you can buy ps-x-change but all of the boot discs on the internet are fake.

    VCD? On Playstation?

Doesn't exist, from what I know.

There's a streaming networked player for PS2 that will play a variety of files, and there's a DIVX/XVID/AVI player (PS2Reality) for Ps2 that can be put with a movie on a disc, or booted alone.

PS2 Reality requires a mod chip.

There is NO SUCH THING as a "boot disc" for unmodded PSX units.

And to my knowledge there is no working VCD/SVCD player for either PSx or PS2... but ESPECIALLY not for PSX.

There _IS_ a VCD player for Dreamcast. Works really well, too.

No sure about a boot disc, but there is definitely a device that allows you to play VCDs on your PS. I don't even think it should be called a mod since it just plugs into the back of your PS, my friend has one. Its been out for years.

    Reeeeeeally?

Interesting. I'd like to see such a device. Anyone got a link/pic? Anything definitive other than "my friend has one"?

(Not that I'm doubting you per se...)

Didn't see a price, but from what I recall, it costs more than what a cheap APEX DVD/VCD player would.

There are several manufacturers of external VCD addons for the PSX, just do a web search. The initial release of the PSX actually had built in VCD support, but it was later removed. There are also internal cards for those players that don't have i/o ports. There is no boot disk to play VCDs on the psx, at least none that work. I believe some group released an mpeg1 decoder emulator which you could burn along with your movie but it would play more like a slideshow, if at all. The PSX is not powerful enough to emulate an mpeg1 decoder, so it can only be done through hardware, ie: external adapter or card.

As for the PS2, there are emulators that work well, but I don't have any specific information on that.

    Excellent, thank you.

However, please note that these are ALL external MPG decoders.

And yes, they all cost more than your average DVD player.
