My Burner as suddenly stopped reading dvd or dvd-r, it reads cdr/cdr/w
with no problems. The problem came out of nowhere, i burned 3 movies
one after the other, then when i put in a 4th blank foranother movie (which was a cheap bulkpac 4 speed which ive never used before) i got a message: wrong media for this project ................and has'nt read dvd since. Is this a firmware problem can it be put right or is my drive dead. all help welcome.

if you use hacked firmware - even if you pay , most of the time they will not touch it ..
yes -- as said above - you have to send it back to pioneer .. -
The warranty for my drive expired 10 days ago, so it will cost me for pioneer to take a look, maybe i should buy a new drive..........

High speed media might have been partly to blame - Pioneer issued a bug fix in their firmware to prevent the optics burning out with some high speed media.
I say Pioneer should be flexible about repairing drives that have suffered because of this. I do not advocate hacked firmware, but if the drive has suffered with original / early release firmware because they made a mistake, I think it's only fair they should put it right. Not everyone regularly checks for updates and although the issue is widely known to those who use these forums, I am not aware of any mass marketing campaign to draw this to the public's attention.
If the firmware is genuine Pioneer and of an old flavour, they might be willing to repair it IF that IS what has caused the problem. Give them a call or write to them - the worst they can do is tell you to bugger off, but if the warranty is out then a new drive is not unreasonable due to wear and tear.
Argue the case that the drive was faulty from manufacture and see where it leads. Pioneer is not an unreasonable company.
