  1. I haven't bought Riteks in a while, about 6 months. Are the Ritek/Ridata G03's from Rima still good for 2x on a Pioneer A04? My last batch was perfect at 2x and I'm hoping nothing has changed.

Should be fine, the Ridata are the same G03s as before, they are just branded. At least the ones I got from Meritline were fine.

  3. I just got a 100-spindle from Rima and they are branded Ritek discs... and to say it honestly:

    THEY ROOL

  4. I think I might be moving away from the Riteks.

After having gone through 150 G03-P7's, burning at 2X with no
    problems on my A04.

This last batch of 100 I got (G03-PY's) - If I burn at 2x, the end of
the disc breaks up in play back horribly. Not just one disc.. I've had
15 of them do this. So I'm back to 1x burning with no problems - just
slow and not worth the price paid for the Riteks over say LeadData's which are well under a buck and burn fine at 1x.

What firmware patch are you using? I had the same problem, and switched to a better upgrade patch and all is OK. I can upload it to you if needed. Its not illegal. Its freeware, so it OK to discuss.

Trust me, it is most likely NOT the media!

Let me know if you need the firmware upgrade for the a04/104.

Which version do you have? Is it official or unoffical? The Gradius unofficial versions are better, and you can go back to the original if you wanna.

  6. Got my 100 pack of G03's from Rima last week. At first I was very worried at the media code:

    .B...@....P..5.......RITEKG..03.

What the heck is P5? I've had P7 and PY but never heard of P5. In any case, they seem to work okay. I've been burning at 2x and it's working. It does worry me about consistency. You can't get too comfy with your brand because disk makers seem to change their formula whenever the mood suits them.

I remember the whoel PY P7 Thing, I've had both an its never made any difference to me even burning at 2x. I have no idea what the code actually means, but I kinda figured it depended on which production line the disc came off of, so as Ritek expands I imagine we'll see more of them. Of course its just an assumption so it could be dead wrong, but like I said I've not had any problems.

No, Ritek does seem to put out batches of bad media from time to time. I've also experienced it with my a05. It would break up at the end of the disc, but if you use it for data, it seems to be fine. [/b]

I'm currently using the offical (non-hacked) pioneer v1.31 firmware (updated from the v1.20 it shipped with).

What firmware are you using? I'd like to give it a try if it's working out well for you.

    thanks
