  1. I have an import Japanese DVD that has horrible subtitles. What can you expect when you have Chinese guys translating Japanese into English :P . I used SubRip 1.17 to extract the subtitles and saved as a .txt file to edit the grammer, spelling, etc. Once I am done that you can save the file in many formats including .sub files.

My question is once I am done editing, how do I get the edited file back into the IFO using IfoEdit? Has anyone done this before?

  3. Arrgh! I wish the Forum Search was working

I have found a guide using IfoEdit to extract and re-insert the subtitles here:
    http://www.dvd2dvdr.com/part_iii_Ifo.htm

But you have to re-encode the VOB files with TMPEGEnc to a MV2 file to be converted back to a VOB file later (Why?). All I want to do is substitute the current subtitle stream with a new one. Is there no way to rename the file the same as the current one and replace it?

    Help!

  4. You need srt2sup to convert your subtitles in srt format to the sup format IfoEdit uses.

    http://www.dawnload.net/video_software/subtitle_tools/srt2sup.cfm

You should also take a look to Subtitle Workshop, it has many features, and can convert between lots of formats ( not .sup )

  5. Thanks Lautaurus. This looks exactly like what I am looking for. Now I just have to figure out how to get it into IfoEdit.

  6. Take a look at "DVD Authoring in IfoEdit" guide in http://doom9.org/

  7. OK, I have got this planned out pretty well (I think)

    1) Use SubRip 1.17 to edit subtitles.
    2) Use srt2sup to convert .srt file to DVD compliant subpicture stream.
    3) Re-author the DVD using IfoEdit so I can insert new sub stream.

Looks good on paper. After I sit down and re-edit the whole 45 minutes of dialouge, I will let you know how it turns out.

    Thanks for the help.
