i was just wondering, why is it that VirtualDub only utilizes about 10% - 15% of my CPU's power to run? usually for programs that do this, they rely more on memory usage than CPU, but it is also only utilizing about half of my memory, and that's along with WinRAR running as well....i still have about half of my memory free. my guess is that i am being held back by my hard drive speed.

does anyone know what VirtualDub relies on more heavily, and know of any way that i can optimize it to use more of what it relies on?

just for reference, i have an Athlon 2500+ (1.83 Barton core, 333FSB) and 1GB Mushkin PC3200 DDR RAM....and i have two 120GB WD HD's in RAID0 for hard drive space

well it sort of depends what virtual dub is doing.......

if you're processing an AVI to a different codec i would expect 100% CPU usage. if you're using direct stream copy on audio or video or are outputting sound to .wav, then the CPU usage will be low. yes you are held back by hard drive speed in those operations.
