  1. I'm trying to backup a couple of my favorite DVDs. I'm trying to use DVD Shrink. It appears to work, but when I try to play the resulting files with PowerDVD, I'm told the disk can't be played in this region (or something like that).

I double checked, and DVD Shrink was set to make the disks region free. I then tried making it region 1 only (seeing as how I'm in the US), but I got the same error.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

  2. Did you check all regions or uncheck all regions. You have to check all regions to make the disc region free. However if you already have the VIDEO_TS folder generated the easiest thing to do at this point is to use IfoEdit to make it region free:

    1. Run IFOEdit
    2. Load the VIDEO_TS.IFO file
    3. Click make region free
    4. Save new VIDEO_TS.IFO

    That's it.

  3. Region free was check and I got the error, so I unchecked it, and checked on region 1 and the problem persists.

I've now tried IfoEdit. I opened the appropriate file, clicked Region Free, and followed the couple of prompts. PowerDVD will now open Video_TS.ifo, and I can get to the menu, but when I click on a chapter to play, the same error occurs.

    The exact message is:

This disc is not formated to play in this region.

  5. I've had the same problem. Load the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in IfoEdit. Press the region free button. A region list will pop up. Click region 1. Save file. I then open up all the other ifo's and press the region free button and then save them too. Works everytime for me.

  6. Yes, I saved the TS one. Now when I open it, IfoEdit says:

No RCE checking found in this IFO

VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_02_0.IFO, VTS_03_0.IFO all say the same thing when I hit the Region Free button.

  7. Aha, I must have missed one the first time through. It's working now. I'd still like to know why DVD Shrink isn't doing this on its own though.

Download DVD Shrink 3.0 Beta it now removes RCE protection.

if the old days before DVD Shrink 3.0 (3-4 weeks ago)

i had that problem ('the Warriors' which was already ripped to my hard drive)

    i don't know why

it was a region one disc in the first place

i simply delete all of the ifo and bup files

and i created new ones with IfoEdit

an even easier way would be

    delete the main video_ts.ifo

    open dvd fab or toolbox

    click create video manager

it will give you a new one in about 2 seconds
