Hi, so FIre Wire have no field order right.
When I capture with FW, what field order to adjust for DVD authoring, is it important or no.
Thee must be some rule for DVD, I know its interlaced, and it suppose to stay interlaced, but upper or lower field.
Thanks

I don't believe field order will come into play UNLESS you are re-encoding.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side. -
I have no experience with firewire/dv, but for my analog captures I read the AVI into TMPGEnc using the wizard and it detects field order. You don't have to actually do the encoding, but just reading it in will detect the field order for you. That's assuming you have TMPGEnc. I use the Plus version , don't know if free version does the same thing.
Also found Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2 always defaults to lower field first, and my analog captures are upper field first, and it was giving me jumpy DVD's until I figured that out. -
OK, I have tMPGENC Plus and after reading the DV file into the wizard, it shows the "bottom field first"-si I guess it detected the fields from my captured DV file, right.
My analog capture card capture in upper filed first(i guess-how to check that), but I do the DVD authoring using DMF 2 and it never gave me jumpy DVD.
Questions:
1. How to check in what field order my capture card workd-Leadtek WinFast TH 170 Pro ViVo
2. How do you know that DMF 2 works by default on lower fields?
3. Can I change field order without changing the quality of captured video -
You can access FIELD ORDER options by activating the ADVANCE MPEG encoding options in Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2.
On my Windows 2000 computer...
1. I clicked MY COMPUTER;
2. I clicked my C: drive;
3. I clicked the DOCUMENTS & SETTINGS folder;
4. I clicked the ALL USERS folder;
5. I clicked TOOLS > FOLDER OPTIONS and then clicked the VIEW tab to make sure Windows would show HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS;
6. I clicked the APPLICATION DATA folder;
7. I clicked the ULEAD SYSTEMS folder;
8. I clicked the ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY folder;
9. I clicked the 2.01 folder;
10. I clicked the DVDMF i-n-i file and then typed ADVANCE=1 under the [VIODRIVER] heading;
11. I saved the i-n-i file;
12. Then I closed Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 and re-opened the program.
Now when I enter the project settings, I see a new ADVANCE button under the COMPRESSION tab.
When the ADVANCE menu pop-up appears, click the BASIC settings tab.
You'll note a drop-down list that allows you to choose...
1. NO FIELDS
2. UPPER FIELD FIRST
3. LOWER FIELD FIRST
Hope this helps,

Good work finding the MF2 encode settings,
but I don't think you want to encode with MF2,
Use TMPGenc, or CCE -

In my opinion, those who claim the MainConcept encoder is not a high quality encoder are...
a. either not aware of the ADVANCED menu options...

Appreciate that info, Specialist. I had unlocked the "advanced" features in DVD MF2 sometime ago, but could never find any documentation on how to actually use it, so I continued to use TMPGEnc. At least now I can make an educated attempt at using MF2 for encoding and see how it compares to TMPGEnc.
Arvin - by unlocking the "advance" features as described above is how I looked at those settings within MF2. -
As I've found out from experience, TMPGENc is not always accurate when it analyzes the AVI and gives you field order.
The only way I've found to be sure is to do a test burn with the field order each way in 2 different clips and look at the results. -
DV is normally bottom.
Capture cards are normally top.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

OK, to cut the story, my way of making DVD's:
1. Analog capture in real time MPEG2 with LEadtek TH ViVO in 720x576 PAL, bit rate 6000, it alows my to put 1:30min video on DVD-R with my first play clip.
2. Open DMF2, load the 6000bit rate template, 90min.per DVD, import my captured MPEG2 file, UNCHECK "do not convert MPEG2 complian file" make menys, and burn DVD.
It looks very good, no jumpy picture, even I dont know what field my analog capture card use, but I thing upper, so I think I will continue to use this for VHS capturing.
LOrdsmurf, I visited your guide, and you said to capture VHS in 352x576-half DV, just, I can not set my format to 352x576, and can 320x480, I dont know why. There is no :custom: button or else.
Below is the 2 way I intend to try to use in order to transfer VHS to DVD.
I will buy ADVC-100 in the close future, I have FW card which droppes frames, with Premier(dodnt tryed another software, everybody says: "use DVIO"-but I dont know), and I guess the way of doing it will be-I already tryed without canopus, just using DV Sony attached to my FW.
- Capture with FW(Canopus) using DV option in Premiere, or DVIO, open DMF2,
- import the Capured DV file into the project, adjust the template to 4000, or 6000bit rate - and burn to DVD,
or
I have to do this
- Capture with FW(canopus)using DV option in Premiere, or DVIO,
- start TMPGEnc Plus, and convert captured DV file using DVD PAL Template,
- start DMF2, imprt converted MPEG2 file into project and burn DVD.
What is the best way to convert and burn captured DV file, first or second?
PS. Today I imported DV captured with Matrox RT2500 inot the TMPGEnc Plus, trying to make DVD PAL MPEG 2 file, after I imported Video and audio file into the TMPGEnc, the reading was:
Video type: Interlaced
Field order: bottom field first
Aspect ratio: 4:3 625 line PAL 704x576??????? How is 704 instead 720 when it's DV,
and when I started the conversion, in the preview window I see a lot of horizontal lines, which you can seeduring playback of video just less. What is it?
Thanks
