Hi,
Before I start I want to say I did read through a lot of the site ( newbie stuff especially ) so please don't shoot me if these seem like stupid questions, thanks.

OK , I had trouble converting to Svcd from a large .AVI file which was from a DV source. I now realize that this is not uncommon due to re - encoding and a whole bunch of other factors.

I have software to edit the video ( Pinnacle Stidio 7 ) and can create a custom output file ( various resoltions and sample rates ). My question is would it makes sense to convert the file to Svcd specs before I output it? In other words make the AVI ( 480 x 480 pixels, 2400Kb / sec ). My thought was it would it would be less demanding for the conversion process to mpeg2, does this make any sense?

OK , now for the really stupid question . . . I read where some people have the same problems as I ( DV video to mpeg2 ) and it was suggested to go to a DVD authoring setup. I only have a CD burner but I was wondering if me or someone else did decide to do that wouldn't you still run into the same problems of the system crashing ( Windows XP ) in trying to re - encode from a DV spec AVI?

Finally my final question, what is the difference berween an SVCD with specs of 720x 480 at 6000 Kb/ sec and a DVD compatible mpeg?
I realize that the DVD media holds alot more but would a short SVCD mpeg at these specs be of equal quality to a DVD mpeg when viewed on a DVD player? Thanks for any help you care to give.
