OK so heres the deal. I rip a movie with DVDShrink 1.03 to less than 4.37GB. I then use ImgTool to create an .iso which is now 6.03Gb! What is happening?

Bill,
Since you posted on 21 June, you may have already found the solution, but I'll post anyway since I had a similar problem and just figured it out today.
I was converting a DVD-9 to DVD-5 using ImgTool, DVD Shrink, and DVD Decrypter. After ripping the files, I used ImgTool to create an ISO file. It turned out to be several GB larger than my original file!
The problem was that I had additional files in my "My Videos" directory. I assumed that ImgTool would select only the VIDEO_TS directory under My Videos and create the ISO from that. It turns out that it takes all files under the directory you specify as the source.
Sounds simple enough (and it is), but I absolutely couldn't figure it out. I just happened to check the contents of a disc I had just tried to burn and saw my entire My Videos directory contents in it.
To compound the problem on successive runs, I had one file that "hidden" in a subdirectory that I didn't move and it was only about 200 MB, but that was enough to push the total file size over the limit.
Anyway, that was my problem with ImgTool, but after I figured it out I was able to burn the DVD. In fact, I used the guide for DVD-9 to DVD-5, but instead of using DVD Decrypter to burn the ISO, I used Roxio Easy DVD/CD Creator. It's not freeware, but since I had it, I used what worked.
DVD Decrypter locked up at 99% every time. Not sure if it was something I was doing or not.
Let me know how it goes.
Kevin
