  1. I have:

    - Samsung Hi8 Video Camera with S-Video output
    - Asus V9520 Video Suite GeForceFX 5200 with S-VHS input

I want to capture my Hi8 recorded videos to my computer. Are there any cables or converters available between S-Video and S-VHS for my purpose?

Unless I'm mistaken and something has changed lately, S-Video and S-VHS are the same.

Connect the S-Video output to the S-VHS Input using an S-Video cable. You should also need to connect the appropriate audio cables as in most cases, S-Video does not carry audio.

  3. My mistake, you are right.

However, the input on the graphic card has nine holes in it, and the camera only four... What's the difference?

    That I'm not sure about.

Try connecting the camera and card together with a regular S-Video cable or the one that came with the camera, if one did.

Maybe the camera will send it's video signal on those 4 connectors/wires and the card will accept it.

The extra pins may be for other cables and configurations.

Give it a try, I don't think there's anything to lose.

  5. It worked!

However, the result I got wasn't very impressing (been followin this guide: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=160618&sid=80cabb9bf8dd404eb807d01a620810a0). Is my computer not good enough?

    SVHS is a tape format
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

Morgan MJPEG is known to be a very CPU intensive codec (some say you´ll need >1.5 GHz for it). Try capturing with PicVideo mjpeg instead, I think that's more suitable for your computer.

  8. You should not connect the S-Video cable straight into the video card.

The 9 pin connector there is where a VIVO cable which you should have recieved with the card (it will have 4 connectors at one end S-Video in, Composite in, S-Video out, Composite out, it may also be two cables with two connectors each, but still with the i/o specified previously).

If you did not receive a VIVO cable with your card, check to see whether it was optional or not (though the cables should have been there, especially if you recieved any video editting package with the card).
