Any possible help with burning to DVD

At wits end here
converting avi's to mpeg 2 with Tmpeg nc
converting mpeg 2's to DVD type files with Tmpeg DVD author [Demo]
burning with Nero 5.5
writer is Pioneer DVR 105 1.33 firmware
Windows 98se OS
media used [Emtec]DVD - RW thought that was the problem so i got [Maxell]DVD-R's because all my systems play VCD's made on Maxell
Burn goes fine, nero even say the disc is DVD compliant
But none will play on computer, or stand alone DVD players
when placed in my work horse Sampro [plays everything] it loads and just stops it shows the menu placement but has nothing listed
Disc can be read by computer when i open the disc from My Computer WINDVD even acts just like a regular DVD when played this way on my computer.
Am i missing a step here?

Read and re-read almost all topics on the subject still coming up blank. Ready to open a coaster store.

Try burn with tmpgenc dvd author(get latest version).

And does it work on your computer(windvd) or not?

Checked Version of Tmpeg DVD author and according to web site Ver. 1.5.11.37 is the latest. could it be that its a demo version?

Also upon further checking Nero version 5.510.4 doesn't let me change UDF format could this also be the problem? Burning in Nero's standard 1.05 UDF ? don't no how to change setting to 1.02 UDF and the online help doesn't say how to either.
although your question did make me check further into these programs just wish it was as easy as making a VCD
