First let us know which SUPERDRIVE you have

The early superdrives are A03..they will not even mount a DVD+R

the interim superdrives are MATSUSHITA and will read them but only can copy from OS9 -as I've seen +R files look greyed out in the opened view

and the newest superdrives are SONY 500 specially made with the + capability turned off..these certainly read the +discs but some systems have trouble still in OSX.. If this is your problem, try reebooting into 9
and if the os still doesn't see the files proberly, as long as the disc mounts, TOSAT can sometimes make an image from it ok

  3. I dont have a mac yet

im planning on getting one before the end of this month (probably a G4, 1.25gig, hopefully higher up, depending on $$$)

but most of my friends have Macs, one just bought his recently, a G4 1ghz. he bought it approx 5 months ago, will it be able to read it on that? if not, is there a Superdrive software update that will fix it? Will it work in VirtualPC maybe? (XP Home). or is it just 'hit or miss'?

There's gotta be a factoid or two that makes this more cut and dried

The only thing I can say Is:
See If you can still get a dual boot machine, then you can wipe OS9 later when you don't need it anymore..
ASSUMING they build DVD+R support into 10.4

because if OSX won't mount the disc. VirtualPC won't see the files either

  6. Hello,

I have two optical drives in my G4 1.2. The one that the computer came with is a combo cd-r(W) drive toshiba sd-r1312 this drive will read and play DVD+RW data and movies (with the apple dvd player)

my aftermarket pioneer dvdr-105 will not read dvd+RW discs at all.

so basically i think its a drive issue not os. its hard to believe that the sony 510 series drives will not even read the + discs!!

BTW i am using osx only.

I also have an aftermarket 105 (external Firewire), and I had absolutely no problem with mounting and reading the one DVD+RW disc I've tried (and it was one that both of my set-top DVD players choked on).
