  3. Premier is better.
studio 8 doesnt even come close.

the good thing about studio 8 is that its more friendly and eazy to use.

on the other hand, if you intend to use studio 8 , you CANT frameserve
to ANYTHING, you will have to use the studio 8 encoder, and its my opinion that its not that good, the other option is to save into avi format.

premier has a lot of plugins, and the mpeg encoder it has is better
and you can install a frameserver if you want.

i whould rather frameserve to tmpeg or cce because they give
    the best qulity there is.

    @somja

Gee, why not ask...If King Kong and Supreman were in a fight, who do you think would win?

Haven't you read the reviews? Did you research at all before asking this question? This is like apples and oranges, two different animals altogeather. They can't be compaired. Jeeze, a $99. program (before rebates) to a $699. Windows or $549. Mac. with no rebates.

  6. i think it is the right way to go.
i have done dv to svcd convertions before, but only a few times
because i dont own a dv camera, the few times i did do it i used my brothers computer and software, he had premier 6.5 and studio 8.
i got the best resolts when frameserving from premier into tmpeg.

just remember that you will NEVER get the original qulity
of your dv tape if you use svcd resolution and bitrate.

if you want to get realy good resolts, you should convert and burn to dvd.
you can get nice resolts with svcd but dont hope for spectacular qulity.

i whould pick premier - you will not be sorry !
its a bit more complicated than studio 8, but its worth it.

and premier is more stable anyway
(just do a serch on studio 8 and you will see its a bit unstable)

  7. Well, if $ is not an issue, go with Premier 6.5. How much it cost now?
But Studio 8 is much much cheaper. It costs only $15 (with MR) from
Fry's (www.outpost.com) a couple weeks ago. If you only do some simple
editing, you will likely find that it is good enough. I used Studio 7/8
for about a year and am quite happy with it.

  8. Heavensent: yea i have tried studio 8 and have been having problems with it (doing svcd and getting sync problems etc) ...i know DVD will give me superior quality but for this particular video i am jus looking for "decent" quality.

i would go with either premiere pro or vegas 4 or ulead mediastudio or final cut pro (if you use a mac) ..

premiere and vegas both use the same mpeg encoder (main concept) and can produce very good results fast ...

both can be a bit more than what is required for the basic editing .. thats what ulead is good for - a more basic , but yet very well featured easy to use program ..

scenalyzer or vegas do better job of capture (transfer) of dv than premiere 6.5 but premiere pro is very good ..

  10. BJ_M: does Vegas 4 have the ability to author to dvd/svcd or will i need to framserve to tmpg or cce?

yes - vegas w/ dvda can author to dvd/svcd , encode 5:1 ac3, encode to dvd and even burn your dvd's (not svcd - but can encode for svcd)
    .

it can also frame serve out if you wish - but its an option, not required.

  12. Don't you need some additional soft. to author DVD if you have Premiere ? And mpeg2 codec is included or you have to buy it extra ?

Premiere doesn't author but comes with the main concept encoder. You can also use other encoders like cce but not free.
