  1. I have some mpg files that i wanna join together, now i go to file > mpeg tools > cut and merge.I load the mpg files but after joining, when playing the video file back ,at the point where its joined tmpgenc seems to add a kinda squeak noise. The noise happens at every point where the video has been joined.

Any ideas to help me out, need to join them clean, no squeak.

    Thanks

I get the same problem with any MPG. this is not a bad reflection of TMPGEnc. when you select a point to cut and or join video, the split point is not dead center on the "zero" line of the audio, the way i counter act this is to demux the final cut, import it into Goldwave. At every chip/ sqeak i interpolate to level it out. the chirps are only a fraction of a second, you will see a big difference. i then convert the WAV to MP2 and then multiplex the origiganl video with the cleaned up audio.

same rule applies as a sctratched record.

Look at a analog wave line in a Audio Editor to see what a "Zero line" indicate. Audio goes from a postive peak to a negative peak and crosses a Zero line threshold. going fro Zero back to Zero is called a cycle, a chip/ sqeak is when the it does not cross that zero line to complete the cycle.

are you joining mpg's that were created with TMPGenc? Some people have had problems joining with TMPG if it didn't encode the files.

I haven't had this problem yet, because all my joins are files I've encoded with TMPG, and I also make sure that I encode them in such a way that they will join seamlessly. (most of what I'm joining are VHS captures)

I make sure that I have a slight overlap [same scene at the end of file 1 and beginning of file 2], and that the overlap has a good edit point - a cut or fast fade to a different scene. For example, someone knocking on a door, which cuts to the person behind the door saying "Who is it?". I will advance frame by frame in the Source Range, and Set End Frame at the last frame of the person outside the door. Then on file #2, I will do the same, setting the Start Frame on the first frame of the person behind the door.

When I go to join, everything plays back without a hitch.
