First, have you ever seen if your DVD player plays VCD 2.0 ? If no, go to de DVD Players in this site and verify.
If yes, so some DVD Players do not accept some kind of CD-R midia. I think you also can discovery in this forum about this (only say what's your DVD Player (name, model)).

  3. my dvd player can play the vcd's .. it actually does play the movie but the display is freaky .. kind of like if you are watching streaming video and the net is clutterd. the sound works great. it just that the video does not display correctly.

  4. I think you need to use 4:3 or 16:9 ratio. I may be worng but I think 1:1 is for PC Monitors. This may or may not be the thing causing the problem.

  6. I think 1:1 is right. That's what I use, but I use a standalone VCD player.

  7. Something that I think is similar happened when I made a SVCD and experimented with various MPEG-2 bit rates. They played, but with very strange (and rather pretty) video effects. Mainly colored boxes of various sizes coming and going. Occasionally the right image would show up on part of the screen. But, a proper SVCD (480x480, max. 2600 kbit/sec, etc. played perfectly. Proper VCDs play perfectly, and if I had made a variant VCD, it might have displayed like my freak SVCDs.

So... make absolutely sure your VCD or SVCD follows the specs exactly.

  8. Okay everyone..His problem is that he is encoding at to less of fps..he is probably doing it at like 29 or so fps..it is to slow for a dvd player so the picture is going to look nasty.
