Hi all,
I'm new to TV capture and I'm looking for some advice.
I've recently purchased a cheap TV Card (its a phillips chipset). I'm wondering on the correct procedure of connecting it to my video (Daewoo Nicam VHS). The Video has S-Video on the front (I think its S-Video out, but don't have the manual to verify), and there is S-Video on the back of the TV Card (the instructions are not detailed at all).
My RF/Aeiral lead goes into the back of the video, and from there, a scart lead into the back of the TV. Now I want to capture the signal from the video (TV and video tape).
I'm I right in presuming the S-video connection on the back of the TV card is S-Video-in, and not out? If so, would it be possible to connect video > TV Card via S-Video? Or would I need one of those other leads (can't remember what, but the standard cable that comes with the video to connect to the TV)?
Thanks in advance

Usually you will find thatthe s-video on the front of a (S)VHS deck is usually an input. Check in case there is one at the back of the recorder, that is usually an output. If you do have an s-video out on your vcr, and the s-video socket on your capture card is probably an s-video in just connect them, with phono leads going to your sound card.
If your VCR doesn't have an s-video out, you will probably need a scart to composite connector (scart at one end, three phono leads at the other) to connect to your capture card.
If you don't have a compsite connection on your video card and only an RF in (thin lead, with round connectors at each end) you will have to use an RF lead to connect your VCR to your capture card. -
I've now established actual connections on my capture card, they are:
Aerial for FM Radio
Aerial for TV (Coaxial)
Video Input (Cinch)
Video Output (S-Video)
Audio Output
What is "Cinch"? Would that be the RF [VCR-TV] Lead? I wish these instructions were more detailed. If so, I can get one from Maplin. -
I've remembered that the S-Video on my Toshiba TV is an input, so the same probably applies to the video.

Cinch is another term for Composite, I've found.

So in this case I would need a Scart to composite cable. I understand it consists of three plugs, one for signal and two for sound, so where would I connect the two phono plugs? (there is aready a sound cable from capture card > sound card). I'm just confused on how I'm going to get the sound across, if this is the case. Unless picture+sound can travel along just one plug.
thanks in advance. -

Can someone please verify this is what I need to connect my video (and through it, TV signal) to my Capture card?
thanks.
