  1. I've got an avi (xvid codec) file in PAL/25fps format and am using TMPGEnc Plus to convert to NTSC DVD.. But end result is that the video is playing in slow motion... ??

    1. open TMPGEnc and close wizard
    2. import avi as video source and audio automatically loads as audio source
    3. load NTSC DVD template and Unlock settings
    4. Source = 1:1 VGA, non-interlace (progressive), topfield first
    5. resize to 720x480 at 23.976fps, 3:2 pulldown playback, ~4000 CB, 'do not framerate conversion', 4:3 display (keep aspect ratio)

    Why's end result playing in slo-motion?? What the heck am i doing wrong??

  2. Uncheck your "Do not framerate conversion", as this is the key to keeping your source video length. Otherwiise, you'll be playing back the same number of frames as your PAL source at a reduced frame rate.

    <example>

    You have 500 frames of video that's PAL. This amounts to 20 seconds of video in PAL since 500/25 is 20.

    However, those same 500 frames at 24 fps would make it about 20.833 seconds.

    </example>
    With Do Not Framerate conversion checked, the above example happens and you achievve slo-mo. To avoid this, use the built-in PAL -> NTSC conversion in TMPGEnc (leave Do Not Framerate conversion unchecked) and you'll get it in regular-mo.
