  2. no, it is not right! You should be able to put up to 6 hours from a VHS. What kind of settings are you using, software...give us more details!

    Kinda new at this.
Using the all in wonder card and set it to mpeg2. Sorry. Will give more settings when I get home and see what they are for sure.
    Thanks for the reply.

yep... I've got three VHS dubs sitting on my hard drive waiting for the authoring to be finished this weekend.

    I captured as Huffyuv avi files, converted with TMPGenc - VBR @ 5,000 - 6,000, mp2 audio @ 224kbps.

This gets a 90 minute movie on the disc with a little space to spare.

Longer movies? Lower your average bitrate for the encode - I think the average for a standard Hollywood movie is about 4,000. (of course, they have nicer encoders and cleaner sources to encode from).

check the audio format your capture device or program is defaulting to - if it's PCM audio, it's going to take up an enormous amount of space compared to AC3 or mp2.

  5. The key to this is using TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 to compile your AVI file.

Use the wizard and at the end you can select the Bit Rate to make sure you can get an MPG-2 compliant file to fit on one DVD. The lower the bit rate, the more minutes you can get on 1 DVD, as image quality will drop with the bitrate.
