Hi can anybody help.Please.
I have an Samsung SV-DVD 3E combi drive.I have some movies that i am having trouble playing. At first i thought it was because they were all svcd's,so i learnt how to re-encode them to vcd and now i am having the same problems.I can start to watch the movies but after a while the picture pixilates and stops the disk from playing.I have tried the same movies in two other dvd's and one does the same and one doesnt. So im not sure how to cure the problem.I have been considering going to buy a dvd re-writer(pioneer ao5) as i need the combi drive. Can anybody shed any light on what the problem could be.
I have thought about the disks and tried two different makes.
Speed burnt =*4
Movies are all encoded following the how to guides
Some of the movies are xvid, svcd, vcd, divx
Will putting the movies onto proper dvd's help?

It's possible that when the movie was captured a lot of frames were dropped at some point and this has caused the encoder to pixelate at this point. For some reason, if there is a lot of dropped frames the DVD player can think the movie is finished (just my 2 cents) and stops playing. There is probably nothing wrong with your writer and certainly nothing should be wrong with your media if you have tried burning more and they all play but stop at the same point.
I don't know if anyone else has a better opinion of what might be going wrong here?
Try burning a different movie and see if that works.
If they are all vcd/svcd or variants they are designed to be burned on CD's so DVD's won't help. -
Hi Maureen,
if you do decide to go for a pioneer dvd writer BIG POCKETS
are doing a very good deal on the ao6 at £129.99 plus about a fiver for postage.
Here's the link http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/
Also have you considered getting a stand alone dvd, divx, svcd.vcd etc
player.
Check out the Umax one also at big pockets i have one myself and because it will play mpeg4,xvid etc avi movies you don't have to convert to svcd or vcd to watch them.
Divx 3 movies are still a problem even with the latest firmware update
but you can reencode to Divx 4 0r 5 or Xvid using Virtualdubmod for example. -
Thanks for the replys.I realy want to stick with the combi just because of the physical reasons(cant fit two seperates in the cabinet). So from the rplys so far there seem to be nothing else to try but the dvd re-writer?.

Okay,
how do the movies play on your pc??
I appreciate that you have tried 2 types of media but it could still be a good idea to try a good quality type.
Her's what i'd do.
Get hold of some VERBATIM cd-r.
Burn at 1 or 2 times speed (i know it takes awhile.)
Try a lens cleaner in your dvd player and on your burner (cd type with small brushes on).
The good quality media will guarantee the reflectivity off of your svcd/vcd once it has been burned.
Burning at a slower speed will help your burners laser read the data as will
using the cleaner. -
Thanks.Think ill give the lens cleaner a go.I have had a few problems with audio stuff i've been burning recently. The burner is also quite old now but has been a good servant. So i'll let you know how i get on with the cleaner.
