I've downloaded a movie and I would like to burn it as a VCD..I know I gotta Encode it first..I tried but let me tell you what happens..I think the Movie i downloaded is a DVD-Rip..I'm not sure..but the extension of the movie is "Avi"..I tried to encode it with Nero..TMPGEnc..AVI2VCD..DVDx..But i couldn't...When I try to encode it with AVI2VCD, I get this message "the file name does not have acceptable parameters or it cannot be opened"..what do i have to do now?
I'm sure it's a DVD Rip and the size of the file is too big...BUT..the extension is "AVI"...so what do i have to do?..I want to burn it as a VCD and now i'm stuck..coz i spent alot of time downloading that movie.
When i Open that movie "Avi file" in windows media player, I can only hear the sound of it...I can't see the movie..only the sound of it.

Get Gspot from the Tools section and test your file. It will tell you if you needs any codecs, get them if they're not installed.

Open the file with a editor like UltraEdit (this editor can handle large files) and snoop around if you can find any information, perhaps it's a BIN file.

  5. If i understand what you are saying, then you are trying to convert the avi to mpg for a vcd. install the codec if you havent already (if its avi then probably a divx file), and open this in dvd2avi to save the project and frameserve. Load the audio file and the d2v project into tmpg and encode.

    Hi flava2k,

After reading this post again I realize that my reply lacks some important info.
I struggled with a AVI file some time ago and after having tried all the VIDEO tools available I finally opened the file with a TEXT editor (Ultra edit is a HEX/TEXT editor and has nothing to do with VIDEO!!!, I only used this editor because it can handle files over 800MB). Today I have downloaded a VIDEO BIN file to see what kind of information is hidden inside it, dont worry if you see a lot of unrecognisable text flying by , could be the VIDEO part of the file or something else (I'm not an expert on this topic).
    Example;

    6J J)3*>UO 4) 3DuO!3(C-HJC i· : Fv)xї|%@mr5%[~nN6Q_Ũ4'NJp|]̤$+;zTĞ*36a*ܔ
    ~Si[ ! 0 N UXA 0 N UXA > N ITEM0001.MPG;1 UXA $ z zz tP0z 0 { ffd(n
    qr |t R { {{ .O @ :{ | 3D/!8(8M#HJC iD: QL:t ) kR| l*Rp7
    F$ )#&%Xw X /yz|Y?D0"|v ËPL!ᮚ^j+Q| " 0 N UXA 0 N UXA < N
    ENTRIES.SVD;1
    UXA : N
    INFO.SVD;1
    UXA 8 N LOT.SVD;1
    UXA 8 h hN PSD.SVD;1
    UXA < N SEARCH.DAT;1
    UXA < N TRACKS.SVD;1
    UXA

OK, I hope the code above doesn't mess up the post. As you can see some recognisable text is present; LOT.SVD PSD.SVD TRACKS.SVD and more. If you can find the same (I don't think it has to be the exact text) it is possible you have a BIN file.

    Good luck
