  1. I have tried burning couple of VCD's using Video Studio 7 (DV->AVI->VCD) but they do not seem to want to playback on DVD players that should (are in fact reported playing back on this site). I am using CICERO 100 pack cdr's, and it makes me wonder if one media could be not suitable for a certain DVD player over another. Do I have a point there?

Generally speaking ,the cheaper the DVD player, the more chances there are of it playing anything you throw at it.
Unfortunately its a trial and error thing where your going to have to just try a sample cd (as opposed to buying a whole 100 spindle)to determine whether it works or not.
The reports here on this site are just a guideline because they vary from person to person.
(does it play OK on your computer?)

When switching to a new brand of media I always buy a sample pack 10-25 and try it out before I buy in mass quanities. I have come accross to may brands of cd-r or dvd-r that do not work on my stand alone DVD players.
