  1. A newbie problem here. I am backing up some DVD to VCD using the following: smartripper to rip the DVD (as movie), DVDx to encode to mpg (vcd), and Nero-express to author and burn onto cdr. The resulting vcd plays well on my standalone DVD, but doesn’t read on my PC, on Windowsmedia or Powerdvd using DVD/rom or CD/rom. I am not sure why. Maybe a problem with Nero as the vcd author/burner? Or DVDx as encoder?
I have done with two DVDs, same problem. Any help would be great.
    Thanks.

powerDVD/winDVD is suppose to play (S)VCDs as is..w/o having to drag the actual .dat/.mpg file. you should be able to set the defult drive letter corresponding to the drive you inserted the disc and powerDVD/winDVD is suppose to play it as is...on winDVD, the info box even indicates "SVCD" or "VCD 2.0"
