After converting 2 files (both avi in divx 5, mp3) to mpg (vcd ntsc standard), using tmpenc to convert!
1st file 103.avi size is 229MB convert -> 103.mpg size is 240MB
2nd file 104.avi size is 205MB convert -> 104.mpg size is 240MB
Both files are of same time duration.
I suspected that 104.avi file is corrupted. I use virtualDub to re-derive keyframe but not much of help. Any other utilities to detect/remove bad frames?

I think there is nothing wrong. Mpg of the same time length have about the same size.

Correct, the size of an mpeg file is in no way related to the size of the source file. Only two things affect the size of an mpeg file, playing time and bitrate.Originally Posted by yf2001usa
As littlecramp has two avi files of the same length, and encoded them both the same way, then they will end up the same size. -
logically, same duration will result in the similar output of file size. However, the input file size is different! Anyway, I decide not to bother about this problem anymore!

simple divx uses another method of compressing then vcd so thats way the sources are different.
