  1. SyncCast , dont know if your already aware of this new copy protection software, makes intresting reading, appareantly it uses microsoft info about your pc to determine if you can view the content, say from a UK guy buying a USA region 1 disk.

  3. it was interesting to read, but it seems mainly for dvd-rom content rather then actual region control (in a sense).
But im quite sure you could still copy/rip a disc if you needed to, as in that sense you are not "playing" the disc so it wont pick up that new region control (my dvd drives are not region free or patched in any way but i can rip a region 2-whatever disc fine, im region 1).

hmm. so does that mean if your PC isn't connected to the internet you can;t watch the film? surely a lot of people will be watching this on HTPC's which aren't neccesarily online. how retarded. i should imagine the content is up on Kazaa etc already, there's always some way to circumvent this kind of control, but that's irritating as well. why am i not allowed to watch it in the UK, but if i take the disc with me to the US, i can watch THE SAME disc! i thought the whole frigging point of the internet was to knock down geographical boundaries and enjoy the global village. we shouldn't be using it to seperate people from one another.

It was said so well that I will just copy it! To bad the people that come up with this crap don't read here, they could save a lot of time. I've said this before, but I'll say it again.

NO matter what they do to protect it, it will be cracked. They harder they try to protect it, the more fuel it will add to the fires working to crack it.

  7. mmm, after reading into stink Cast more, and checking the disk files out, the High Definition content of Terminator extreme, is stored as 4 *.wmv files totalling 6.5gb, i copied these to my hard drive, double clicked, and it wants to go off and check for a liecense etc, so yes you can only play the HD in USA while connected to the internet to recieve and check for the lisence, so unless theres a way to dycrypt the *.wmv files or something i can never play this disk in the UK, i wish i was American!

Yes and No. You can convert the WMV's to AVI and all the software based protection is gone. Haven't seen a WMV I couldn't convert yet :P I smell a trip to the rental store for a strict proof of concept test.....then I'll delete it!

  9. And what Program would you recommend for converting a WMV file? All the ones I have tried have failed.

...the High Definition content of Terminator extreme

i played it after getting the lic and outputed them through a sdi card to a high def server doing real time encoding to another format ... thats a straight digital transfer w/ no loss.

Now i can play them at will in my home cinema forever.

also can back them up to HDCAM tape or d-beta...

if you can watch/listen to something - it can be recorded..

but the means of encryption on d-cinema is a lot tougher to handle .. i wouldnt get into the details on that ..

Can you rip it after you get a license? I think I'll just write a letter to the movie company. Simply stating that the 5 day license is not acceptable for something that I own. And that I will never buy any of their products, and will not go to the theater to watch any of their products. That might get a little more attention.

And in time, this WILL be cracked if more movies come out in this form. Of course how many people have a 3Ghz HTPC. The idea of HTPC is to make them small and power efficient, not some power hungry bruiser. Yes they will get to the 3Ghz level in time, but now they are mostly of a lesser processor.
