i ripped some films the other day and everything is fine. i ripped another 4 and EACH film has a problem. They copy fine but if i use dvdshrink or dvd2one each one says their a problem with something (tried clonedvd as well and it mentioned their was a problem), although t doesnt tell me what the problem is. I use smart ripper, so i tried clad and those progs to shrink the films still gave me an error. i used ifoedit to fix and gts sector problem as well (then tried it without it) Anyone have any idea as to whats wrong or how to fix it? no scratches on the disc and i did clean them. thanks

You can rip them to your hard-drive OK. So its not a ripping problem.
Are you just using DVDSHRINK to make the whole disk smaller or just the movie. Or are you using the edit feature to cut the disk down to size?
What exactly does it do that makes you think there is a problem. You mention it doesn't tell you but some message must appear? -
ok, im doing full disc copy with everything, but leaving out an audo stream here and there. dvd shrink gives the following error message:
invalid nv_pck: nv_vobu_ea
or
invalid vob_id and cell_id combonation
sometimes it gave another error message (told me unknown error), but similar to that.
dvd2one (113)
mentioned something invalid with a vob/cell.
clonedvd--same type of message given by dvdshrink.
no, im not editing down the files at all, just ripping and wanting to shrink them, while exluding certain audio streams
also if it helps when loading in dvdshrink before it does anything, thats when i get the errors when it scans the disc, so i dont even get to the shrink step -
When you rip the DVD do you rip all files on DVD or are you ripping the movie only? Try ripping all the files on the DVD then run it through DVDShrink... Hope this helps!

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it. -
i 've only gotten that message when i merge movies
try ripping with smart ripper in backup mode
than use ifoedit to get vts sectors -
yes i am ripping all files on the dvd, and yes i have been using backup mode wtih smart ripper and have done the gts sector with ifoedit and i sitll get these errors. Is it possible that by some horrible coincedence that each of these films might have been mastered with errors?
-
i seen about 5 (krush groove and Gangster party was 2 of them) dvds that was mastered wrong
but i guess since they were press on
they played on stand alone dvd player
but their copy version wouldn't
i would use ifoedit to fix them
sound like u have a vob navigation error
maybe u could use vobedit
i never use that before
bob w know that program pretty good
maybe he can help u
p.s. maybe u should rip in file mode (Movie only)
then use ifoedit to create ifos
then get vts sectors -
well i did try file mode ealrier today and then got the gts sectors from that, that fixed one of the dvds!! However trying that method on the others still gives a problem
So what i might do is almost re-author the disc with ifoedit, i will use the strip stream functions to get what i want and then have ifoedit fix everything else and just perhaps this will fix the problem--keep you posted-- -
FIXED THE PROBLEM!!!
ok firstly i normally use dvd2one as that lets me get a disc with a 4.32gig file size. I mainly use dvdshrink becaue it scans the entire disc in a matter of seconds and if their are any problems it will tell me (which if i use dvd2one i would have to wait like 15-20mins before the program craps out to tell me something is not right)
so i used ifoedit to strip some streams of lets say movie A which gave me problems. I got rid of an audio stream and then copied the rest of the files over to my destination folder once ifoedit was done, got gts sectors, ran it through dvdshrink and my problem went away!!! it had to be a navigation problem and since ifoedit fixes that when stripping streams the problem went away
NOW onto movie B. I did the same thing and i noticed that dvdshrink crapped out with a problem (still!!!). I ran it through shrink again and saw it was somewhere during the extras of the disc that it was doing it. So using ifoedit (tis particular film has 7 titles). i stripped the streams for all 7 titles. NOTE that you do not have to get rid of anything, you can keep every single stream and it still fixes the navigation. Once done ran gts sectors and now the problem is FINALLY fixed.
So if any of you run into the same snag, i would suggest using the strip stream option in ifoedit and go from there-- -
finally found the the TRUE problem of my errors, it was the dvd- drive!!!!
(and for the record my above posting about finally finding the answer did work for some dvds but others it still did not fix things)
i have 2 drives the regular pioneer dvdrom drive (120s) and the dvr-104 burner.
i use the rom to rip and the burner to record. My problem then was that the burner would rip most films only at 2x speed. i did not want to wear down the drive, and wanted to rip quicker, i stuck with the same brand and got the 120s rom drive. This drive starts ripping almost at 4x and ends at like 8x. THIS WAS MY PROBLEM
Either the drive is truly shitty or it is just ripping way to fast causing errors.
Lately any film that i had to use a shrink program on had errors, too much to be coincidence. So for the hell of it i did one film giving me a problem, using my 104 burner, it took about 45mins but it WORKED FINE. This led me to now think that either the rom drive was ripping too fast or is crappy. i guess from now on if i rip with that drive i wll enable "asapi" in smart ripper as that actually slows my rom drive down to 2x and
perhaps this will fix things then. Figured i would let you know -
try buying a different dvd-rom drive
i have a creative dvd rom and a samsung dvd rom cd burner drive and i rip up to 16x with no problems
a new dvd rom drive is like $40.00
see if u can exchange that pioneer dvd rom -
i mainly use smart ripper, but have used clad ripper and that has a detect errors, the discs are error free.
it definitely is the drive. Im going to wait a little as my next drive i get is going to be the pioneer 106 dual format burner. This way i have 2 good burner drives and should have no problems then -
never use a burner drive to rip
they're slow and expensive
and ripping will shorten the life span of that drive
dvd rom
cheap and fast
if one do happens go out (rare)
u can just buy another one -
yes, but thatts why io bought the 120s drive and its gfailiung horribly, i dont want to keep on buying dirves, so my next drive is going to be the dual format burner, so ill havwe two burner drives
