Hi
I have this avi movie which I just cannot get synced correctly, the file is completely out of sync by about 3 sec. I have tried using YAAI , and VirtualDub but I cannot even get the audio track to change, let alone sync the thing up. Can anyone here with more experience then me see why I cannot edit the sound track in this movie, any tips, advise welcome.

VirtualDub:
1) File -> Open Video File
2) Video -> Direct Stream Copy
3) Audio -> Interleaving... set "Delay audio track by" 3000 to delay the audio by 3 seconds, -3000 to advance the audio by 3 seconds. You can verify the skew via the preview functions.
4) File -> Save as AVI -
I usually convert the MP3 VBR (Variable Bit Rate) audio to CBR, especially if I have sync problems. Since you are using VirtualDub, I would save out the VBR audio with full processing to a WAV and use something like Audacity to convert to CBR (Constant Bit Rate) MP3, then add this back into VD and delete the old audio, save out the files with Direct Stream Copy and see if that helps. VBR audio can cause a lot of sync problem when converting to other formats.
If the sync is still off and the sync error is a constant amount the duration of the video, then you apply your offset. If it were 3 seconds, then that would be 3000ms offset. You can use a player like MPC to correct the sync, then plug that number into VD for the correction.
It the sync error varies during playback, gradually getting worse after conversion to CBR, then the length of your audio and video files may be different. You can adjust the audio length with a program like Audacity.
If you need to use Mac programs to do this, there are probably equivalent ones. I could move this thread to the Mac forum if you wanted. Or you could start a new thread there
